God bless the Canadian medical system
With all the uproar over Obama's proposed medical bill in the US, and the fear-mongering that is being spread by the Republican party, using horrors stories from Canada as examples, I thought that I should weigh in on the debate and just say, "ARE YOU GUYS CRAZY???? Since the end of January, I have seen my own GP 3 times, she has called me 4 or 5 times at home to check in on me and make sure that I am alright, I have had 2 chest xrays, 1 ultra sound, 1 CT scan, 4 thoracenteses, 1 paracentesis, 2 rounds of blood work, 1 session of chemotherapy, seen my oncologist twice, and two other cancer specialists. How much did I pay for all this? NOTHING!! And all of the interventions have been done in a most timely manner, professionally, and by first class, caring professionals. I am being treated in a premiere Canadian cancer hospital, with free workshops and social services available to me on the spot should I feel the need for additional support while I am in the building. I shudder to think how different things might have been if I lived in the US without medical insurance. Support Obabama's bill for the right to affordable treatment for all Americans!

Amen! I am an old friend of Miriam's and an American and completely agree with you!!
I have never met you Anne, but have heard so much about you and love you from afar. My thoughts and positive life-force karmic healing energy is directed towards you. I will be reading your blog and cheering for you!

And even with insurance you'd be paying it off for years. And yet so many people I speak with just don't get it. I keep telling people that the care in Canada has always been good - sure we've been gone 10 years but my brother received good care 5 years ago and now you are sharing your story. I'll be sure to pass it along. Thanks!
But more importantly please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you Anne. That I wish for you much peace, light and great karma while you fight and heal. I have but wonderful memories of your and JP's kindness. May it come back and surround you.

Well said mama!
I was in shock first and cried my head off (without showing you). You have always been and ARE my role model and when things go bad (and they did for the last 5 years), I automatically thought of you and your grace and strenght. You getting sick means anything can happen - nothing is rock solid and you must make the best with what life gives you. I love you so much. Thank you for teaching me how to live and respect myself. I know you will beat this thing. I am coming too to see you - just looking for a window when you don't have too many visitors.
We're thinking of you a lot, Anne, and with a lot of warm affection. As you said earlier in this blog, if good wishes could kill cancer cells, you'd have no problems. You're going to beat this in any case.
